This course is the initial offering of a series of training focused on switch scanning with AAC. This introductory course provides a basic understanding of scanning including who would benefit from switch scanning access, scanning terminology including direct vs. indirect selection, scan patterns, scan types, as well as basic setting options to support visual impairments.

- Identify two characteristics of an AAC user who may be appropriate for scanning as an access method
- Differentiate the five scan types
- Differentiate the four scan behaviors
- Identify three setting options that may benefit scan users with visual impairments
Presenter: Erica Iffland, CCC-SLP Erica has treated, assessed, and consulted with individuals across the life-span. She has worked in early intervention, pre-school groups, out-patient pediatrics, elementary and middle school, as well as adult day program consultation and skilled nursing facility settings. She has a passion for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and is a member of the Tobii Dynavox Learning Services Team where she develops and conducts internal and customer trainings, creates implementation resources, and presents at conferences about AAC topics.
